Here are some of my tips/experience on servicing the Burgman AN650.
600 mile Service
For less than $18 I did mine using a Suzuki Oil filter and Walmart Oils, if you don’t have a tube type oil filler for those plastic quart bottles that will cost you another $1 – $2.
A small strap wrench for the oil filter or another type is needed for another $5 or less. So your first time service may cost as much as $25 doing it yourself. Also a 12″-18″ long plastic tubing will make filling the transmission easier through the “inspection hole” instead of the “fill-hole” but pre-measuring is advised in keeping any mess to a minimum.
This will save time since no painted body panels need removing.
Note: You’ll find that the engine oil and especially the transmission oil is real filthy at 600 miles.
I did the 600 mile service myself, total cost were:
Suzuki Filter ………………………………………………$12
Wal mart oils (engine, transmission & gear)….$6
Labor (90 mins.)…………………………………………..$0 Labor is now 30 mins. if you fill the transmission as noted above.
Total cost……………………………………………………$18
4000 mile Service
I just finished the 4k service, it took more time to locate my tools, material and manual then to do the service (about 30 mins). Since its been nearly a year since I changed the transmission and final drive oil I did that too at the same time with out removing any lower body panels.
By filling the transmission oil through the transmission “inspection hole” (by using a plastic tube from an auto store) it saved me about 30 mins. of labor. Total cost of this 4k service, since I didn’t change the oil filter was less than $5 including all oils. I recorded the mileage, date and what was performed in the back of my owners manual. I also remembered to reset the oil change indicator.
Note: The engine oil was dirty, the transmission oil wasn’t too bad and the final drive oil (80w/90w) was nearly clean.

HELLO, I JUST BOUGHT A 2006 BURGMAN 650 AND NEED TO CHANGE THE OIL. I FOUND ALL THE PLACES OK, AND THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF OIL TO PUT IN. MY QUESTION IS—- IS THE SIGHT GLASS, ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BIKE, THE ONLY PLACE TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL?? I DID NOT EVEN FIND A DIPSTICK??? DON’T TELL ME I HAVE TO LIE DOWN ON THE GARAGE FLOOR EVERY TIME I CHECK THE OIL????????? NOT A GOOD THING FOR SURE. AND ANOTHER THING CAN I USE AN AFTERMARKET OIL FILTER ALSO, AREN’T THEY ALL PRETTY MUCH THE SAME??? THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS, I DO WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THE BIKE. JACK.
I am looking for a service manual on a 2006 burgman model. Any suggestions?
