Aerobic capacity and insulin resistance

Having a high level of aerobic capacity offer protection against a high fat diet. Rats with an inbred low aerobic capacity were heavier, with elevated triglycerides and had lower muscle oxidative capacity when fed a high fat diet compared to rats with a higher aerobic capacity.

Aerobic capacity is usually measured as VO2 max. The fastest way to improve aerobic capacity is with anaerobic exercise, especially interval training.
