Astaxanthin increases fat utilization during exercise

Astaxanthin is the potent antioxidant in salmon and shellfish that makes them pink. Mice given astaxanthin prior to exercise had increased endurance and increased fat utilization. This resulted in reduced fat accumulation.

Eating salmon is the best way to get more astaxanthin. You can also take it as a supplement. Small amounts appear in shrimp and lobster.
