Today the Black Nazarene, a dark wooden sculpture of the Christ bearing a cross will be paraded in Manila. It is a yearly tradition where hundreds of thousands of Filipino devotees take part in the procession of Christ’s image. It is believed that when you take hold of one of the ropes that guide the Black Nazarene’s float, good fortune awaits you for the rest of the year.
Though every year there are reports of injuries, and sometimes deaths, Filipinos make this procession a yearly traditions.
