Low glycemic diets and weight loss

It is reasonably well established that reducing the amount of carbohydrate or lowering the glycemic index of the carbohydrates eaten both improve the rate of weight loss and cardiovascular risk factors. Both of these approaches lowers the total glycemic load and corresponding insulin levels.

Improving the quality of the carbohydrates eaten is particularly attractive since a high fiber diet is associated with a low BMI, greater insulin sensitivity and better blood lipids.
