Weight gain and breast cancer

The association of breast cancer with weight gain is well established. It now appears that the timing of the weight gain and body fat distribution may be a better predictors that weight gain by itself.

Women that gained their weight after their first pregnancy were more at risk than those who gained their weight over the course of their life. Central weight gain, mainly affected by hormone levels and insulin resistance, was also found to be associated with an increase risk.
