Translated into English as “Heavenly Sea,” Lanikai is touted as the best beach in Hawaii and the United States.
The beach is located at the southeastern shores of the island of Oahu, the third largest island in Hawaii. The beach has calm waters and fine sand. Not too far-off from the beach are two bright-green islets called the Mokuluas.
The beach is an excellent place for water sports such as canoeing, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, skimboarding and swimming.
Lanikai is a short 40-minute drive from Honolulu, defintely worth it since you’ll be enjoying a top-notch beach destination.
To go to Lanikai you can use the Google Map below.
The best time to go to Lanikai would be anytime of the year. If you’re into surfing then the best time to catch the waves would be during the rainy season of November to March. Don’t be mislead when we’re referring to seasons as dry and rainy; Being in a tropical climate, Hawaii encounters brief rainshowers almost everyday.
Being a beach lined with private properties, Lanikai doesn’t have an official lifeguard. At times there are advisories and warning signs when there are too much jellyfish and stinging seaweed so watch out for these when visiting Lanikai.
