There are some things that you really need to get down pat before you place your first big stock order or over commit to a wholesaler.
The first thing you have to do is decide how you want to operate your business. What I mean by that is decide if you want to…
- Buy products from a wholesaler and only list what you have in stock.
- Become purely a Drop Shipper and get your wholesaler to send the items you sell directly to your customers.
- Sell your own products (eBooks, Training Courses etc on CD)
- Buy items from Swap Meets and Garage Sales to Resell
- Buy under priced items on eBay and resell for a higher profit
- Or a combination of the above.
From experience it’s better to master one technique then move onto the next. I didn’t mention selling things from around the house as there will only be a limited supply, although this is the perfect technique to master the basics.
Once you have decided how you want to sell on eBay you then have to consider if you want to sell small or large items. Having the storage space and courier issues with larger items can play a big factor in the ease of your operations.

Do not even blink an eye at any competition on eBay. Yes, some products like iPods or a certain brand show will be over saturated in the market (i.e. too many sellers selling the same thing for a tiny profit).
But research will allow you to cross these products off your list. Once you have chosen a general category of items you can sell you can then fine tune your research to choose 1 – 2 products.
